Biography
I received my bachelor’s degree in biology from Duke University and my Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After completing post-doctoral research at the Rockefeller University under Dr. Charles Rice, I joined the faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park as an assistant professor in 2016.
Graduate Program Affiliations
Biological Sciences (BISI): Molecular and Cell Biology (MOCB)
Research Interests
My lab at UMD works at the interface of virology and cell biology. Specifically, our work focuses on virus-host interactions in the airway epithelium – the primary target for infection by influenza virus and other clinically relevant respiratory viruses. My lab uses a variety of tools, including microscopy, deep sequencing technology, viral genetics, and in vitro primary cell model systems to understand mechanisms of host restriction and innate defense against viral infection.
