Spencer Lewis

Originally from Akron, Ohio I received my Bachelor's of Science in Biological Systems Engineering in 2020 from Virginia Tech. I then worked as a IRTA postbaccalaureate fellow at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon completion of my postbac, I joined the University of Maryland. Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate in the McIver lab studying how the pathogen, Streptococcus pyogenes, adapts to heme stress in the host environment. Beyond my research, I am interested in identifying novel targets for antimicrobial therapies.
