cell biology & molecular genetics


The Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics participates in the teaching and advising of students in the following Biological Sciences Program specialization areas:

  • Biological Sciences: Cell Biology and Genetics  (CEBG)
  • Biological Sciences: Microbiology (MICB)
  • Biological Sciences: General Biology (GENB) advising last names that begin with the letters N through Z

Our courses are taught in four basic areas that represent faculty research interests and expertise including:

  • Cell and Developmental Biology
  • Genetics and Genomics
  • Microbiology, Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology
  • Plant Biology


Undergraduate MAJOR

A primary mission of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics is to provide undergraduate students with an education that integrates theoretical concepts with laboratory and research skills, while giving students opportunities to grow and build a knowledge base for productive careers.

The goal of the graduate program is to enable students to obtain the best training in their intended research areas, to work closely with outstanding faculty, and to prepare for successful futures contributing to innovative advances and effective teaching in the life sciences.
