UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING

All Faculty of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics participate as undergraduate advisors.

Our Advising Program is a part of the College of Chemical & Life Sciences mandatory advising program. All Faculty of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics participate as advisors.

Students are assigned to advisors in Three Phases:

Phase 1: Freshman Advising

Students are advised by specially trained advisors in the College of Chemical & Life Sciences.

Phase 2: Major Advising

Once students have completed the Basic Biology Program, they are assigned to an advisor in their major area. CBMG Faculty serve as advisors to students in the following programs:

  • Microbiology,
  • Cell Biology and Genetics or
  • General Biology, if your last name begins with n-z

Specialization requirements sheets and 4-year plans can be found at bsci.umd.edu/major-requirements

Phase 3: Exit/Clearance Advising

Senior year students are assigned to a special advisor who will review with the student the plan for graduation and complete a senior audit.

To identify your advisor assignment, please see the Advisor information in Testudo or call the CBMG Undergraduate Office.

Each semester prior to the start of Pre-registration, advisors will contact students with information regarding the advising appointment.
