changes.
The University of Maryland recently reorganized its biology graduate programs. The Molecular and Cell Biology (MOCB) and Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics (CBMG) programs are no longer accepting applicants as independent programs. Please explore those interests in concentration areas within the new Biological Sciences (BISI) graduate program below.
The Biological Sciences Graduate Program (BISI) is an interdepartmental umbrella graduate program that includes four areas of concentration:
The program is housed in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) and serves the Department of Biology (BIOL), Department of Cell Biology & Molecular Genetics (CBMG), and the Department of Entomology (ENTM).
The goal of the program is to enable students to obtain the best training in their intended research areas, to work closely with outstanding faculty, and to prepare for successful futures contributing to innovative advances and effective teaching in the life sciences.
BISI offers outstanding opportunities for research and discovery within and across contemporary disciplines. Faculty mentors help students investigate exciting questions, in directions driven by each student’s interests and curiosity. Enthusiastic and interactive colleagues, agile minds, and cutting-edge technologies work together to advance and apply science.
