General Information
The
Genomics Core provides faculty and students with a centralized resource where
multiple users have the opportunity to access automated nucleic acid sequencing
and analysis instrumentation. Located within the Genomics Core is an Applied
Biosystems 3730xl DNA Analyzer, whose 96-capillary array allows researchers to
perform high-throughput, large-scale nucleic acid sequencing and analysis. An
additional Applied Biosystems 3100 Genetic Analyzer, equipped with a
16-capillary array, offers further resources for users who are working on
smaller-scale sequencing and fragment analysis applications. Also available
within the facility is a Roche LightCycler 480 Real-Time PCR machine, a Bio-Rad CFX 96 Real-Time PCR machine, a Qpix2
Genetix colony picking robot and a Biomek FXp Laboratory Automation Workstation
with spectrophotometer and plate carousel.
Rate Schedule
The Genomics Core Rate Schedule applies to all trained, eligible users within the the College of Life Sciences and is current for the 2009/2010 Academic Year. Rates are adjusted each year depending on usage. Fees are used to help cover the cost of the service contracts on the instruments and to help pay for consumable materials.
Policy
The Sequencers and Real-Time PCR machines are available to trained, eligible users. Those who wish to reserve time the instruments must contact the facility manager for training and sign up for run time using Oracle Calendar. New users who do not have an Oracle Calendar account will need to apply for a single account.
Access to the Genomics Core, currently located in room 2229 of the Bioscience Research Building, is controlled with a card lock that grants access by reading the barcode of a University identification card. Anyone requiring entry into this area should contact the facility manager for access.
Users who have reserved a block of time on an instrument are responsible for reporting for their scheduled session. All users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the complete list of policies governing the use of the facility.
