 Adminstration

Assistant Dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies (2011 - present)  working with General Education and the Marquee Courses in Science and Technology.

Teaching

Course and lab instructor for BSCI 223 General Microbiology (1978 - 2011).  Since arriving at the University of Maryland my focus has been education in Microbiology. My goal has been to understand how students learn science and to engage students in a challening, interesting, current, and thought provoking educational experience in microbiology

Research Interests

Present interests include the analysis of pedagogy for science education. Projects include the use of case studies as a method to motivate learning,  the use of technology in large multi section courses, working with a faculty team to change how science is taught in a series of microbiology courses.

Projects and Funding:

Research and Teaching: Host Pathogen Interactions
“Linking of courses to foster in depth and research oriented learning of host pathogen interactions”Supported through HHMI grant to the College of Chemical and Life Science (2004- present)

“Activities to support deep and research oriented learning of host pathogen interactions” Supported by NSF 0837315 (2007-2010)
