Duties: The University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor level in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics (cbmg.umd.edu), to be to be appointed jointly with the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (cbcb.umd.edu). The University has committed the resources to recruit new tenured and tenure-track faculty in order to continue building a world-class research program in genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, molecular biology and genetics.
We seek individuals leading outstanding research programs addressing questions of broad significance in human genomics, host-pathogen genomics and/or computational aspects of genomics and bioinformatics. Candidates will be expected to have developed, or demonstrated the potential to develop, a vigorous and externally funded research program and will teach within our undergraduate and graduate programs. All applicants are expected to have strong publications and research experience in the areas of biological science, genomics and bioinformatics. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is an important asset.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will complement a vibrant group of researchers within the College of Chemical and Life Sciences and the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. College Park is the flagship campus of the University of Maryland System, and is located in the Washington DC area adjacent to numerous government and biotechnology institutions. There are excellent opportunities for interactions with various research centers on campus and with nearby institutions, such as National Institutes of Health, The Institute for Genome Sciences, Smithsonian Institution, and Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology.

Additionally, close proximity to Washington DC, Baltimore, and the Maryland Biotechnology Corridor facilitates interactions with an extraordinary range of major research institutions, including the NIH, NIST, USDA, the Smithsonian Institution, and FDA. The Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking junior and mid-career faculty with the demonstrated ability to develop high impact research programs in Cell Biology and/or Microbial Pathogenesis. In Cell Biology, areas of interest include membrane traffic, signal transduction, and the regulation of gene expression, with emphasis on approaches that involve mammalian systems, genetics of model organisms, bioinformatics, functional genomics, and high-resolution microscopy. In Microbial Pathogenesis, areas of interest include viral, bacterial and protozoan pathogens, their interactions with host plants or animals, and strategies for detection, prevention, and treatment of disease. Qualifications: Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program and to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Applicants must have a doctorate degree, relevant postdoctoral experience, an outstanding publication record and a commitment to excellence in teaching.
